Babies and Shopping Bags.

[243 days to go] Yesterday (on one of our favorite Hallmark holidays) I had a great run through Boston, and I am still amazed at how easy running through the city can be! Starting out, I thought that it would be life-endangering with all the cars and offensive drivers, but what it really comes down to is your ability to make avoiding these objects look artful. Dodging items and individuals mid-stride is a true skill, and it makes running all the more interesting. I have already learned a few tricks about running through the different areas of our fine city. Through the South End one must be wary of dogs (and their deposits) and baby strollers. Along Massachusetts Ave there are errant music students swinging trombones and being generally inattentive to the world around them, and along Newbury street the hundreds of shoppers with suitcase-sized Coach bags serve as effective hurdles.

The start of training has begun! I’m looking forward to the weather warming up a bit, but until then I will continue watching the weather channel for nice days, and keep to the treadmill in the meantime. I am already up to FOUR MILES. Rock out. Only 22.2 more to go…

Until next time.
